But then the question is, is that bliss real as you move forward from your little honeymoon period and you’re dealing with the person as a person? That’s when things become more complicated and hopefully more interesting. You have that period where it’s the two of you against the world and you’re keeping this wonderful secret, and part of the reason why you want to keep it private is that it’s just so phenomenal. It’s precious and you want to foster it and you want to breathe life into those embers… but as things move forward, things change.

TVLINE | Here you are, entering your first season with Rick and Kate as a couple…. How is that different for you?
Given where they are in their relationship, we’re looking forward to mining that fun. Everybody’s asking, did we reach some sort of conclusion at the end of last year? And to all of us it really feels like a new, fresh, fun beginning for these folks, because Castle and Beckett aren’t going to change who they are. They still get on each other’s nerves. And just because you’re in a relationship doesn’t mean it goes smoothly. There’s a finish line that they haven’t reached yet – how are they going to be able to get there? Certainly if you look at the relationship on paper — a New York City police detective who lives in a particular kind of socioeconomic world and deals with a particular kind of stuff, and a wealthy mystery novelist who lives in a much different world — these guys wouldn’t make any sense. But oddly enough, it’s their love of solving the mystery where they connected. The sparks that fly between the two of them that are so much fun come from friction, and friction is both a positive thing and a negative thing.

TVLINE | Right – for example, the next time Rick sees Jim Beckett, that’s got to be a little different.
Well, how about a “meet the parents” episode, where Jim Beckett and Martha and Castle and Beckett are all together at dinner?
There’s all sorts of fun stuff we can play with. But also, what happens when you find out a secret that somebody has kept, and now that you’re in a relationship, they’re still keeping it? Or an old boyfriend or an old girlfriend comes to town — how do you deal with that?

TVLINE | I’d be curious to see some of Kate’s.
Well, she keeps her cards pretty close to her vest, so that’s why they’re more fun. It feels like everybody knows the same Castle — he’s kind of the same guy to everybody in their life — but you can see that Kate is somebody who plays roles. She’s a particular sort of person to her father, and a particular sort of person to Castle, a particular sort of person to Gates, to Montgomery…. She’s very guarded in situations, and she chooses what to reveal about herself. Now that she’s in this relationship with Castle, is she going to reveal a little bit more? Or is she going to keep her secrets somewhere where she can draw her lines and boundaries?

TVLINE | If “Secrets” was the theme to last season, what’s the theme for Season 5?
Let me think…. I think this season is the challenge of being together and what that looks like. I do retain the right to change my mind as we get in and we start to really see how people are responding. I mean, we have a couple of great scripts in front of us, but we’re just now seeing how Nathan and Stana settle into these roles and where some of that magic is. Some of our work behind the scenes as we go to address this stuff on the page is going to be informed by what’s working really well and what we feel like we can mine to bring the audience the most satisfying journey.

I know it won’t be all sunshine as there will be a case they will have to investigate, but what else can you share about this episode? Hoping we’ll get to see some cute moments of them as a couple since they will be away from the precinct and wont’ have to hide their relationship. — Cheryl

I think my favorite parts might end up being AT the precinct, where the pair will become very good at stealing glances and moments. “I’m hoping the audience is interested to see how we deal with that material — how we deal with them two in a relationship together and whatthat looks like when they’re out together in public, when they’re stealing moments or when they have to pretend that they’re not,” says executive producer Andrew Marlowe.

Tamala tease c'te chipie et bon ça me paraît le plus logique que soit son perso qui comprenne le plus vite

"There is a scene — and it’s a morgue scene — where [Lanie] notices that something’s different. Actually, she notices at the crime scene too,” Tamala dished. “Beckett’s like, ‘No, no I’m not doing anything different,’ and they get into the morgue and she figures out, ‘You’re having sex!’”

It should come as no surprise that Lanie eventually puts the pieces together (she is Beckett’s best friend, after all), but we’re still in the dark about the timeline of events.

“She may not know so soon,” Tamala teased, “but she knows that Kate is no longer sexless.”

Alas, the couple’s biggest problem may come in episode six when Castle is suspected of murder.
“The most difficult part about that story is I don’t think Beckett ever doubts that he’s not the killer,” Katic explained. “I think she is in tune enough with him to know that he isn’t. I think the thing that is the question in her mind is the question of whether he was unfaithful. And Beckett met the man when he was signing someone’s chest — someone’s boob! — and she knows he has a history of two failed marriages and one-night stands and things like that. So Beckett being the one-and-done type would want to know the relationship means as much to him as it does to her. And that’s where that conflict lies.
